This is a very unusual method of designing a quilt. “One Fabric, One Shape, One of a kind Quilt”. The fabric does all the work in the designing of the quilt. Kaleidoscope blocks are each one unique. Once the blocks are made, you begin to design your quilt on a pin up board. The size of the quilt depends on the size of the repeats of the fabric you choose.

Part I Cut fabric and begin sewing blocks.
Part II Designing blocks on Pin Up Boards

PATTERN: “One Block Wonder” Book by Maxine Rosenthal (required)

Fabric Requirements: (Staff will be able to help you)
(The book has very helpful hints on choosing fabrics.)

12” Repeat Fabrics 2-1/4 yds + 1-1/4 yds for border & binding
18” Repeat Fabrics 3-1/2 yds +1-1/2 yds for border & binding
24” Repeat Fabrics 4-1/2 yds +1-3/4 yds for border & binding
(The larger the repeat and larger the pattern the more variety in the blocks.)

4-1/2 yards Hexagon blocks for Lap Size, Twin, or Full Size Quilt
1/2—1 yard extra to have a piece of the original fabric as reference
OR
9 yards Hexagon Blocks for Queen or Larger Quilt

Supplies:
Sewing Machine in good working order
1/4” foot (very helpful)
Flat Head (Flower) quilting pins
Rotary cutter, mat and 6” x 24” ruler
60 degree Ruler to cut hexagons from strips.
Neutral cotton thread
2 Full Bobbins
Your own pressing pad and iron very helpful.
Flannel Backed Oil Cloth Table Cloth (portable Pin Up Bd)
Basic Sewing Kit (includes hand and machine needles, thread, thimble, fabric and paper scissors, pins, needle threader (optional), seam ripper, and anything else that makes you comfortable.)
